Sprague Branch Renovation

Information and updates regarding the Sprague Branch Renovation project will be posted here. Check this page or visit the Sprague Branch for future updates as the project develops.

UPDATE 10/18/18: Preliminary design diagrams and renderings (see below) for the Sprague Branch renovation were presented for input from the community at a public meeting on Tuesday, October 4, as well as to the Sugar House Chamber of Commerce and the Sugar House Community Council.

UPDATE 09/17/18: Salt Lake City Public Library invites you to contribute to the vision for the Sprague Branch renovation at a community meeting on Thursday, October 4, from 7–8:30pm at the Sprague Branch.

The architectural team of Arch Nexus and Margaret Sullivan Studio will be presenting their design ideas to the public while also facilitating a Q&A segment. The goal is to ensure a community-centric approach to designing the renovated space to meet library customers' needs, goals, and aspirations. Refreshments will be served.

UPDATE 08/30/18: Let’s talk about some survey results. We asked the Sugar House community to tell us how you like to use Sprague Branch. Here are the uses you chose, starting with the most popular.

1. To cozy up with a book and read

2. To play & learn

There was a four-way tie for 3:
• To meet with groups of all sizes
• To study (do homework & have a place to concentrate)
• To create, make, and innovate
• To hang out with friends, family, and your community

4. To work and incubate your business

What all of these results tell us is that the findings from last year’s Space Utilization Study are right on target. The Sprague Branch is an asset to the community, and with the renovation, the building itself will be better able to help us do all of the activities listed above.

UPDATE 08/01/18: Many thanks to those who participated in our community meetings and online survey over the past few weeks! We had hundreds participate at the Sprague Branch and that many more completed the online survey. All of the data collected is being compiled and analyzed to ensure the renovation project is lined up with what the community wants.

Our design team of Margaret Sullivan and Arch Nexus will be using the data to produce a plan over the next few months. Stay tuned for further results and for more specifics about what we heard.

UPDATE 08/01/18: On Thursday, August 9, Library representatives and the architectural team of Arch Nexus and Margaret Sullivan Studio will hold two community meetings to present the vision (based on information gathered from the community last spring), and to hear your comments in order to verify the direction of future programs, services, and interior spaces. The goal is to ensure a community-centric approach to designing the renovated space to meet library customers' needs, goals, and aspirations. Refreshments will be served. The meetings will take place from 5-6:30pm and from 7-8:30pm.

The architectural team will also be on hand 10am–4pm on Thursday, August 9, for informal conversation about the re-envisioned Sprague Branch.
