WELCOME TO THE SALT LAKE CITY PUBLIC LIBRARY!

Once your library card application is processed and you receive your card number via email, you can begin using your card immediately to access the full array of City Library materials, including exploring our Digital Library of online resources, eBooks, audiobooks, music, and more. Please allow up to 24 hours for your application to be processed and your card number to be delivered.

All residents of Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County can sign up for a City Library Card free of charge. To get a Library Card, you must attach the following documents to this application:

Evidence of Identity, such as:

  • a Photo ID issued by a unit of government, organization, school, or employer; or
  • a Non-Photo ID issued by a unit of government. Examples include a birth certificate, Social Security card, Native Tribal ID, Medicaid/Medicare card, IRC Face Sheet

Evidence of Salt Lake City residence, such as:

  • an ID with address issued by a unit of government, organization, business, school, or employer; or
  • printed personal check; mail, lease, or rent receipt postmarked within 60 days; account statement or bill; valid car registration; voter registration card; IRC Face Sheet.

*Accepted file types are images (JPG, PNG, etc.) and PDF.

If you are unable to — or prefer not to — submit identifying documents as part of your application, you can still apply for a Basic card that will expire in 30 days.

NOTE: If you are not a Salt Lake County resident, you may still register for a City Library card for an annual fee of $80.00.
