In May of 1953, the American Library Association published The Freedom to Read Statement. It says in part, "The freedom to read is essential to our democracy. It is continuously under attack." Every year books are challenged in libraries and on campuses throughout the country, with calls to outright ban free access to certain books due to their content.
In this discussion, librarians from the Marmalade Branch will examine several banned or challenged books and invite participants to discuss their own selections.
Light refreshments will be provided. Recommended for ages 12 and up.Search enhance: Banned Books Week
