Overview

The City Library offers eBooks and downloadable audiobooks from three vendors: 3M Cloud Library (eBooks only), OverDrive (eBooks and eAudiobooks), and OneClickdigital (primarily eAudiobooks, but some eBooks as well). Specifics on how each vendor works are included below.

eBooks and eAudiobooks "check out" like regular library materials. You borrow them for a period of time, often 21 days, but digital items don't earn overdue fees—when they are due back, they simply leave your device and become available for the next interested patron. Like other library items, The City Library has a limited number of digital materials—we order individual licenses, and if one patron is using an item, other patrons cannot check them out.

finding eBooks in the Catalog

In general, all eBook and downloadable audiobook titles can be found in The City Library's catalog, catalog.slcpl.org, and 3M Cloud Library and OverDrive eBooks can be checked out directly from the catalog. While browsing through search results, eBooks are marked with an ereader icon and downloadable audiobooks are marked with a computer and headphones icon . Using the catalog to search is a good option if you are looking for a particular title in any format: book, eBook, audiobook, downloadable audiobook, etc.

finding eBooks using the vendors' apps

You can also browse The City Library's eBooks through each vendor's app. This is a great option if you would just like to see what The City Library offers from a specific eBook vendor. To find and download the apps for your device, visit your device's App Store or Marketplace and search for "OverDrive," "3M Cloud Library," or "OneClickdigital," or click the corresponding link in any section below to download directly from the vendor's website. Once you download the app, you will need to enter your library card number and PIN, then you will be able to see the items that The City Library has available.
